Byzantine lead seal of monk Nicholaos
(11th cent.).
A small fault on sealing in one part, otherwise about Very Fine. Very well centered example!
Obverse: The bust of the Mother of God, facial, orans, nimbate, the usual inscription Μ(ΗΤΗ)Ρ- Θ(ΕΟ)Υ = Μήτηρ Θεοῦ (Mother of God), all within a dotted border.
Reverse: Inscription in 4 lines, following a decorative pattern and a cross, all within a dotted border: + Θ(ΕΟΤΟ)ΚΕ/ΒΟΗΘ(ΕΙ)/ΝΙΚΟΛ(ΑΩ)/(ΜΟΝ)ΑΧ(Ω) = Θεοτόκε, βοήθει Νικολάῳ μοναχῷ (Mother of God, help the monk Nicholaos).
