Roman Silenus Statuette
1st-2nd century AD. A bronze statue of bearded Silenus standing on a pedestal, wearing a loincloth tied on a knot below his rounded abdomen, holding a wineskin in his raised left hand and club(?) in his lowered right hand; round openwork three-legged pedestal decorated with ivy leaves. 97.5 grams, 11.3cm (4 1/2"). Property of a European gentleman living in London; acquired on the UK art market.
