Judaea, Procuratorial. Pontius Pilate. Æ Prutah (2.47 g), 26-36 CE. Jerusalem, RY 17 of Tiberius (30/1 CE). TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC, lituus; countermark: palm branch within oval incuse. Reverse: Date (L IZ (Z retrograde)) within wreath. Hendin 1342; TJC 333; RPC 4968. Very Rare. Lovely glossy brown patina. The first clearly countermarked example we have handled. A remarkable coin worthy of further study. Choice Very Fine or better. Value $1,000 - UP
