SWEDEN. Gustav II Adolf, 1611-32. Riksdaler 1617, Stockholm. 31.77 g. Ahlstrom 25; Tingstrom 7; Antell 475; Davenport 4516; KM 69. One of the finest available riksdaler of all dates of Gustav II Adolf, also known as Gustavus Adolphus, whose war efforts during the 30-years war (1618-48) gave him the title "The Great". A highly skilled military commander and a genius in state organisation, his efforts saw Sweden rise to a European Great Power. Slight doubling and weakness of strike and minimal friction on the highest parts. A dark spot in the right obverse field and a few marks can be seen on both sides. Perhaps the best portrait available of Gustav Adolf. Extremely fine and very rare as such. Ex.
