Description

SWEDEN. Carl XV, 1859-72. Gold Carolin 1868, Stockholm. Finest Graded. 3.23 g. Mintage 33,468. KM-716, Fr-92. The so called 'Carolin' or 10 Francs denomination was struck 1868-72 to match the currency of the Latin Monetary Union. Sweden did not become a member despite a lengthy discussion. Instead, Sweden and Denmark formed the Scandinavian Monetary Union in 1873 which Norway entered in 1875. More than an important piece in terms of economic history, the coin offered is also the finest graded by both PCGS and NGC. Only 1 other coin has reached the MS66 grade and none in MS66+. Fully lustrous, satiny surfaces with almost no blemishes, this coin is a real showpiece. In US plastic holder, graded NGC MS66+, certification number 3997408-002.
