El trisquel, triskelión o triskele es un EMBLEMA que consiste en tres piernas humanas dobladas. La palabra proviene del griego triskeles τρισκελής que significa "tres piernas". Es uno de los símbolos más antiguos de la humanidad. Según algunas culturas, el triskelion representa la evolución y el crecimiento, el equilibrio entre cuerpo, mente y espíritu; manifiesta el principio y el fin, la eterna evolución y el aprendizaje perpetuo. Para otras culturas simboliza el aprendizaje y la trinidad: Pasado, Presente y Futuro. Cuando este triskelion muestra la cabeza de Medusa en el centro, constituye el símbolo de Sicilia. Plinio el Viejo afirmó que el triskelion representaba la forma triangular de la isla y sus tres bahías. Las espigas de trigo son el símbolo de la fertilidad de Sicilia, denominada como el granero del Mediterráneo. El reverso nos muestra al dios Júpiter victorioso que, junto al águila con las alas desplegadas y el rayo, confirma el simbolismo olímpico: “la fuerza de Júpiter se une con el animal que le es consagrado y es con el rayo que el dios combate y extermina a los titanes”.

The triskel or triskelion is a symbol consisting of three bent human legs. The word comes from the greek triskeles (τρισκελής), which means "three legs". It is one of the oldest symbols of the humankind. According to some cultures, the triskelion represents the evolution and the growth, the balance between body, mind and spirit; it reveals the beginning and the end, the eternal evolution and perpetual learning. For other cultures it symbolizes the apprenticeship and the trinity: Past, Present and Future. When the head of Medusa appears in the middle, it becomes the symbol of Sicily. Plinius The Old affirmed, that it represented the triangular form of the island and its three bays. The wheat spikes are the symbol for the fertility of Sicily, named as "the Mediterranean barn". Reverse shows us a victorious God Jupiter next to the eagle with spread out wings and the lightning, which confirms the Olympic symbolism: "the strength of Jupiter joins with the consecrated animal and the lighting, with that the god fights and exterminates the Titans."
