Description

KUSHAN: Huvishka, ca. 155-187, AV ¼ dinar (2.00g), G-337 (same dies), half bust of Huvishka above the clouds, round crown & diadem, holding mace & ankus // the sun-diety Miiro (Mithra) standing, his name misspelled as MEYPO, raising hand in benediction and holding scepter, nick on obverse on king's face, deep scratch at obverse 10 o'clock, planchet defect at center of reverse, small rim nick at obverse 12 o'clock, bold strike, EF, RR. A very rare variety of the relatively common Miiro quarter dinars, with the misspelled name. Only 2 examples are cited on CoinArchives, both with the same reverse die as this piece, but different obverse dies.
