Description

BARBADOS: George III, 1870-1820, AE penny, 1788, KM-Tn8, large pineapple variety, NGC graded AU55 BR. These tokens are thought to have been privately commissioned by Phillip Gibbs, a local plantation owner. These dies were engraved by John Milton, who in 1789 became assistant engraver at the Royal Mint. Milton records that this issue was struck starting October 4, 1788.
