Description

TENASSERIM-PEGU: Anonymous, 17th-18th century, cast large tin coin (59.38g), Robinson-20var (Plate 9.1), 69mm, knotted dragon right with protruding pointed tongue, three tiny dots below the dragon // 3-line Burmese legend, superb example, deeply engraved designs on both sides, cast from same master mold as lot 998, choice EF, RR. Coins of this type, where the dragon rather resembles a snake, typically weigh in the 55g-75g range, and were found in the Perak hoard, noted by Robinson, pp. 56-58.
