Description

TENASSERIM-PEGU: Anonymous, 17th-18th century, cast large tin coin (37.80g), Robinson-26 ff (Plate 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4), 66mm, stylized image of the "dragon on sea", with the waves portrayed as dots (23 dots in 3 rows, plus 1 dot between the rows) // 3-line Burmese legend, fabulous example, deeply cast with bold images, legends, and dots in both the field and the borders, 1 natural casting hole, surely the finest known example, virtually UNC, RRR. Although this is a relatively available Tenasserim large coin, it comes in a bewildering variation of the quantity and arrangement of the dots representing the ocean waves.
