PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, 323-283 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (12.61 gms), Alexandreia Mint, ca. 294-282 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 1/5. Flan Flaw, Smoothing, Scratches.
CPE-168; Svor-255; SNG Cop-70-1. Obverse: Diademed head right, wearing aegis around neck; Reverse: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, P above monogram. Admittedly, this specimen exhibits a fair number of issues, including a large flan flaw across the chin and neck of Ptolemy. Nevertheless, the eagle on the reverse is rather bold and, overall, it stands as a budget example of the type from this founder of the dynasty.
