Description

★ Four Stunning Portrait Denarii of Julius CaesarDating to the Weeks Surrounding his Assassination ★

JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (4.05 gms), Rome Mint, P. Sepullius Macer, moneyer, 44 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5.
Cr-480/5b; CRI-106a; Syd-1071. Lifetime issue. Obverse: CAESAR IMP, wreathed head right; star to left; Reverse: P SEPVLLIVS MACER, Venus standing left, with head lowered, holding victoriola and scepter set upon star. Offering a deep cabinet tone, this impressive example presents a few minor flan flaws and some typical off centering, but nevertheless features a pleasing, stern portrait of the man would be assassinated in the days or weeks following this coin's striking. Some cobalt hints and tinges of underlying luster simply augment its charm.

Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
