ROMAN REPUBLIC. Q. Antonius Balbus. AR Denarius Serratus (3.86 gms), Rome Mint, 83-82 B.C. NGC Ch AU★. Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5.
Cr-364/1d; Syd-742b. Obverse: Laureate head of Jupiter right; S C to left; Reverse: Victory, holding wreath, palm frond, and reins; Q ANTO BALB / PR in two lines in exergue. One of the most wondrous examples of the type that this cataloger has seen, with the serrate grooves not entering the main design. The strike is bold and well centered on each side, while the wear is at an extreme minimum. A deep gray cabinet tone is further accentuated by a charming iridescent nature. Definitely worthy of an elite bid and tremendous enthusiasm.
