★ Bizarre Fourrée Muling of Republican and Augustan Types ★
AUGUSTUS (27 BC-14 AD). Fourrée Denarius. Contemporary Rome mint imitation muling Republican type of A. Plautius and Augustan Imperial type of L. Vinicius.
Obv: A PLAVTIVS / AED CVR S C.
Turreted head of Cybele right.
Rev: L VINICIVS.
The Parthian Arch: Triumphal arch, surmounted by facing quadriga, in which Augustus stands, holding laurel branch and sceptre; smaller arch to left and right, surmounted by archer on left and by slinger on right; S P Q R / IMP CAE in two lines on entablature of arch.

Rare and interesting.
Condition: Good fine, some bankers' marks on the obverse.
