Description

★ Rare Kyzikos Fraction ★

MYSIA. Kyzikos. Trihemiobol(?) (Circa 6th century BC).

Obv: Crab holding tunny right within claws.
Rev: Incuse square punch.

Nomisma IX -; Asia Minor Coins online -; cf. Gitbud & Naumann 36, lot 202 (without tunny noted; listed as Kos).

Though numerous silver fractions have been attributed to Kos or to an uncertain area in Thrace-Macedon, this particular issue would seemingly be more associated with Kyzikos on account of the tunny. Very rare and interesting.

Condition: Very fine.

Weight: 1.06 g.
Diameter: 9 mm.
