KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas. (277/6-239 BC). GOLD Stater. Amphipolis.

Obv: Helmeted head of Athena right.
Rev: ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΟΥ / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ.
Nike standing left, holding aphlaston and stylis. Controls: To left, wreath below left wing.

HGC 3.1, 1039; CNG 100, lot 57 (which realized a hammer of $12,000); New York Sale XXVII [Prospero], lot 314 (which realized a hammer of $65,000) = Sotheby's [Bunker Hunt] 1990, lot 390; CNG 66, lot 262.

Extremely rare, and one of just a handful held privately.

Condition: Good very fine, struck on a compact flan.
