KORKYRA. Korkyra. Roman rule (Circa 229-48 BC). Half Victoriatus.

Obv: Pegasos flying left; monogram below.
Rev: Head of Aphrodite left; monogram to right.

Ex Apostolo Zeno Collection (Part III, Dorotheum, 26 March 1957). Apostolo Zeno (1668-1750) was Court Poet to Holy Roman Emperor Karl VI and wrote libretti for operas by Scarlatti and Vivaldi. His coin collection, formed before 1750 and rivaling that of the emperor himself, was sold at auction between 1955-7 by Dorotheum Wien. At the time of the sale, it was one of the oldest provenanced collections to be offered for sale.
