Description

LYDIA. Tralleis. Cistophor. C. Fabius M.f. (Proconsul, 57-56 BC). Pammenes, magistrate.

Obv: Cista mystica with serpent; all within ivy wreath.
Rev: C FABI M F / PRO - COS / ΠΑΜΜΕΝΗΣ.
Bowcase between two serpents. Controls: to left, zebu bull standing right above maeander pattern and TPAΛ; above, eagle standing right, head left, with wings spread; to right, Apollo standing left.

Stumpf 32; Meadows, Fides, 229; NAC 52, lot 832 (unsold at ChF 700); Naville 11, lot 168 (which realized a hammer of £450).

Very rare

Condition: Good very fine for issue, obverse typically poorly struck.
