Description

HADRIAN (117-138). Denarius. Eastern mint.

Obv: HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS P P.
Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left.
Rev: RESTITVTORI HISPANIARE (sic).
Hadrian standing left, holding volumen and raising up Hispania, kneeling right and holding branch; rabbit between them.

Cf. RIC 388.

The style of this type appears to be more eastern, and the altered reverse legend (Hispaniare rather than Hispaniae) points toward an imitative mistake. Either way, it is very similar to the official Rome product, yet not an exact match.

Condition: Good very fine.

Weight: 2.82 g.
Diameter: 18 mm.
