Description

THRACE. Coela. Gallienus (253-268). Ae.

Obv: IMP GALLIHN.
Laureate head right.
Rev: AEL MVNICIP / COEL.
Tetrastyle temple, containing uncertain figure standing left, holding statuette (or crowning Nike) and cornucopia.

Cf. Varbanov 2959; cf. Numismatik Naumann 51, lot 263.

Though the description in Varbanov describes Hermes as holding his normal purse and caduceus, it would appear more likely that this is a different figure, holding a statuette and cornucopia. Very rare.

Condition: Good very fine.

Weight: 7.82 g.
Diameter: 23 mm.
