A ROMAN RED JASPER INTAGLIO DEPICTING ARTEMIS EPHESIA
Circa 2nd-3rd century AD.
Oval intaglio featuring Artemis of Ephesus standing facing, flanked by two stags; above, star and crescent. The temple of Artemis and her cult statue at Ephesus were regarded as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
