Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 272-240 BC. Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 6.45 g, 7 h), Zopyros and Phi.... [ZΩ]Π-YPO-Σ Nude jockey riding horse walking to right, holding the reins in his left hand and crowning the horse with a wreath held in his right; behind the rider, ΦI. Rev. Τ-ΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos riding dolphin to left, holding cornucopia in his right hand and trident in his left; behind, bee flying upwards. HN III 1029. Vlasto 855-856. Clear, lightly toned and with an unusual symbol. Some die rust and struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, about extremely fine.
