MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 478-465 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.19 g), c. 470. Lion, pouncing to right, attacking bull, collapsing to left with head turned back to right; above, Θ to the right of the bull's horn; below bull, base of pellets between plain lines; in exergue, floral ornament. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with granulated surfaces. Desneux 78 ( same dies ). SNG ANS 9. Tselekas, 203 ( same dies ). Lightly toned and struck in high relief on a particularly broad flan. Some die rust around the bull's tail, otherwise, extremely fine.
