Description

THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 400-377 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 12.93 g, 1 h), Metrodotos. Horse springing to left. Rev. MHT-PO-ΔOT-OΣ Grape vine with four bunches of grapes, all within linear square; around, inscription with an ivy leaf at the upper left; all within a shallow incuse square. HGC 3, 1528. Lorber Appendix 3, p. 180, a = Münzen und Medaillen 73, October 1988, 50 ( this reverse die ). Schönert-Geiss Period VI -. Lanz 135, May 2007, 111 var ( no leaf ). Lightly toned and attractive; extremely rare as an issue, with only a very few examples of this magistrate known. Extremely fine.
