Description

CELTIC BRITAIN, Catuvellauni. Unknown ruler, circa 55-50 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 5.88 g, 6 h), 'Early Whaddon Chase' type, with rounded wing. Devolved Apollo head with wreath pattern; above, rounded wings, below, uncertain ornaments. Rev. Realistic horse galloping to right; above, wing motif and S; below, shield; in field to right, eye. ABC 2433. BMC 295-330. Mack 135. Van Arsdell 1476. Unusually complete, well-struck and most attractive. Extremely fine.
