European Medals from 1513 to 1788
Netherlands, The Dutch Republic. Plaquettepenning (Silver, 62x54mm, 44.43 g 12), Memento mori for Geetrudis Teresa van Hulten, died 20 May 1663, by Wouter Muller (?), 1663. Laureate skull with winged hourglass on top; in jaws, cartouche, supported by two putti, containing De Doot is een inganck ten leven (= death is the entrance to <eternal> life ); above, on a long ribbon, Salich sijn de Dooden die in den Heere stervē Want sij Riisten van harē Arbeijt (= blessed are the dead who believe in the Lord for they will rest from their labor ). Rev. Oval cartouche, resting on a skull at bottom and suported by a skeleton at the top, holding a torch and a scythe, and by two putti; engraved on the cartouche, Geertrudis / Teresa / van / Hulten / Obit / 20 Maÿo / 1663 .
