Description

CELTIC. Danube Region. Circa 1st Century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.36 g, 12 h), a particularly late imitation of the Thasian tetradrachms, class V. Celticized head of young Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. Celticized inscription Herakles rendered as a stick figure. Lanz -. Göbl OTA pl. 46 Class IV var. Cf. Naumann 30 (2015), 12, UBS 77 (2008) 573 for examples from the same reverse die. Extremely rare. A particularly unusual coin even among the imitations, struck from a very distinctive reverse die; toned. Nearly extremely fine.
