Description

CELTIC. Danube Region. Circa 1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 38 mm, 17.09 g, 2 h), a late imitation of the Thasian tetradrachms, but still recognizable, Cclass V. Head of the young Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. Garbled inscription Celticized Herakles standing left, nude but for lion's skin over his shoulder and left arm, and resting his right hand on club; inner left, H; inscription in the form of parallel rows of pellets. Lanz 983ff. Göbl OTA pl. 46 Class V. Attractively toned and well-centered. Good extremely fine.
