Description

CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Uncertain tribe. Circa 3rd-2nd century BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 12.5 mm, 1.92 g, 10 h), imitating staters of Philip II. Celticized head of Apollo to right, with curly hair. Rev. Charioteer, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left, driving horse to right; below, stylized facing head. Delestrée & Tache 2015. Or Gaulois, pl. III, 13-15. Scheers pl.vii, 26. Very rare. Struck from a pair of remarkably artistic and stylish dies. Struck slightly off-center, otherwise, about extremely fine.
