Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18.5 mm, 4.19 g, 11 h), Abydos, 323-319. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on a backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; below eagle, head of Ammon to right; below throne, ivy leaf. Price 1551. Clear and struck on a broad flan. Nearly extremely fine.
