Description

SICILY. Unlocated Punic mints. Circa 410-395 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.29 g, 12 h). Horse galloping to right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horse. Rev. Date palm with two date clusters. Jenkins, Punic, 45 (this coin cited). Locker-Lampson 114= SNG Lockett 1032 = Weber 1771 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 1610 (same dies). Extremely rare. A beautifully toned and exceptionally attractive example with a splendid pedigree. Nearly extremely fine.

Hoffmann, 16 January 1882, 2099, and from the collection of E. Wigan (1823-1871), sold privately to Rollin & Feuardent shortly after his death.
