Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Timoleon and the Third Democracy, 344-317 BC. Hemilitron (Bronze, 13.5 mm, 2.52 g, 4 h), circa 344-336. ΣYPAKO-ΣI Head of youthful Pan to left. Rev. Syrinx with nine pipes within oak wreath. Calciati 94, 1 (same dies). Favorito 76. SNG ANS 490-491. Virzi 1421. Extremely rare, and probably the finest known. With a dark green patina and a fine head of Pan. Very minor smoothing on the reverse. Extremely fine.
