Description

SICILY. Segesta. Circa 465-450 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 8.41 g, 6 h). Hunting dog standing alertly to right. Rev. ΣΕΓΕΣΤΑΖΙ8 Diademed head of the nymph Segesta to right, her hair bound up at the back and turned under her diadem; all with a linear circle with the inscription outside. Hurter 83c (this coin). Very rare. Struck from dies engraved by an exceptional engraver, who was a master of Classical style. Attractively toned. Some traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.
