Description

SICILY. Naxos. Circa 420-403 BC. Litra (Silver, 11 mm, 0.75 g, 11 h), signed by the engraver Prokles on the obverse. ΝΑΧΙΩΝ Head of youthful Dionysos to left, wearing ivy wreath; below, barely visible here, tiny Π. Rev. Vine branch with bunch of grapes. Cahn 135 (V83/R110, same dies). SNG ANS 529. SNG Lloyd 1161. Rare. A lovely, sharp, toned coin of excellent Classical style. Nearly extremely fine.
