Description

SICILY. Galaria. Circa 460 BC. Litra (Silver, 11.5 mm, 0.65 g, 11 h). Σ-OTE-R (retrograde) Zeus seated left on throne, holding a long, eagle-topped scepter in his right hand and resting his left on the throne. Rev. CA - ΛA Dionysos standing left, holding kantharos in his right hand and, in his left, a vine with a bunch of grapes. Jameson 574. Jenkins, Coinages, Group I. SNG ANS 1. Very rare, nicely centered, sharp and attractively toned. Some remaining encrustations as found, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
