Description

LUCANIA. Poseidonia. Circa 445-420 BC. Stater (Silver, 19 mm, 8.54 g, 5 h). ΠΟΜΕΙ Poseidon striding to right, brandishing trident and with chlamys over his shoulders. Rev. ΠΟΜΕΙΔΑ (retrograde) Bull standing left on dotted ground line. HN III 1116. SNG ANS 662-663. SNG Copenhagen 1284 (same dies). Beautifully toned, of the finest Classical style, and unusually well-preserved for these pieces. Some very minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
