Description

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 280-279 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 7.76 g, 7 h). ΔI Head of Demeter to right, wearing wreath of barley ears, triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley of seven grains and leaf to right; to right, above leaf, kantharos with ⊢A to left. HN III 1616. Johnston D3.3 (same dies). SNG ANS 510 (same dies). Clear, toned and of good style. Obverse struck from a slightly rusty die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
