Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 315-302 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.95 g, 6 h). Nude horseman galloping r., holding round shield and two spears in his left hand, and striking downwards with a spear held in his upraised right; in field to left, Ξ; below horse, API. Rev. TAPAΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding rudder in his left hand and a kantharos in his right; in field to left, KΛ. FB 914b (this coin). HN III 939. BMC 208 (same dies). Vlasto 640. A beautifully toned example, very well-struck from fresh dies. Good extremely fine.
