Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 450-380 BC. Pentonkion (Silver, 9.5 mm, 0.67 g, 2 h). Diademed head of Athena to right, set on her circular aegis. Rev. TA / Σ Kantharos flanked by five pellets (value marks). HN III 859. Vlasto 1217 (this coin). Rare. Clear, of excellent style and with a fine old cabinet tone. Rough surfaces as found, otherwise, very fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, ex Peus 368, 25-28 April 2001, 2, from the collection of P. M. Vlasto, and from the Elliot Collection, formed in England prior to the 1930s.
