Description

Baktria. Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Eukratides I, circa 170-145 BC. Stater (Gold, 20 mm, 8.46 g, 12 h), Circa later 160s BC. Diademed and draped bust of Eukratides to right, wearing Macedonian helmet adorned with bull’s horn and ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ / ΕΥΚΡΑΤΙΔΟΥ The Dioskouri galloping to right, each holding spear and palm branch; below right, monogram. Bopearachchi Series 5 (monogram unlisted for gold). Mitchiner 176 (monogram unlisted for gold). Extremely rare, a lightly toned and splendid example. Good extremely fine. From the Ravenel Collection, USA, ex Nomos 12, 22 May 2016, 118 and from an American Collection, acquired from Classical Numismatic Group in 2013.
