Description

Illyria. Dyrrhachion. Circa 200-37 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.40 g, 10 h). MNA-ΣHN Cow standing right, her head turned back to left to lick at her calf, standing left and suckling below. Rev. ΔYP AΛE -ΞIΩ - NOΣ Double stellate pattern within a double linear square. Picard & Gjongecaj, RN 157, 2000, p. 233 and pl. XV, 113-114. In this condition, quite rare. Well centered and sharp, struck on very good metal with a most attractive old toning. Some old marks under the toning, otherwise, extremely fine. From the BCD Collection, ex Tietjen 83, 28 June 2000, 252, and previously from an old German collection.
