Description

Faustus Cornelius Sulla, 56 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.74 g, 5 h), Rome. Diademed, laureate and draped bust of Venus to right. Rev. Three military trophies; to left, jug; to right, lituus; in exergue, monogram of FAVSTVS. Babelon (Cornelia) 63. Crawford 426/3. Sydenham 884. Lightly toned and with an attractive large bust of Venus. Struck on a heavy flan adjusted by clipping; and with some striking flatness , otherwise, extremely fine.
Ex Nomos 14, 17 May 2017, 259, from the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, bought from Münzen und Medaillen in Basel prior to 1975 .
