Description

KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32mm, 16.82 g 1), Temnos, circa 188-170. Head of Herakles in lion skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and scepter in his left; to left, above Zeus’s lap, two monograms; to left, vine-tendril with grapes around an oenochoe to right. Price 1686. SNG Saroglos 428. Nicely centered and attractive. Some minor deposits and marks, otherwise , extremely fine.
