Description

KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29mm, 17.08 g 12), Mylasa (or Kaunos?), c. 250. Head of Herakles in lion skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and scepter in his left; to left, double ax or labrys. Price 2074. A splendid and attractive example, lightly toned. About extremely fine.
