Description

Sicily. Syracuse. Agathokles, 317-289 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.08 g, 4 h), c. 310-305. Head of Arethusa left, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earring, and pearl necklace; around, three dolphins; below neck, monogram of NΚ. Rev. ΣYPΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ Chario­ teer, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left, driving quadriga galloping to left; above, triskeles running to left; in exergue, monogram of AI. Ierardi 5 (O2/R5). SNG Oxford 2064. An attractive, lightly toned and well-struck example. Extremely fine.
