Description

Sicily. Katane. Circa 450-445 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 16.94 g, 8 h). Male charioteer wearing a long chiton and holding a goad in his right hand and the reins in both, driving a walking quadriga to right. Rev. ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΟΝ Laureate head of Apollo to right. Gulbenkian 178. Rizzo pl. X, 13. Toned. Overstruck and with slightly rough surfaces, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
