Description

Elagabalus, 218-222. Denarius (Silver, 19mm, 3.43 g 12), Rome, 220-222. IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate and draped bust of Elagabalus to right. Rev. INVICTVS SACERDOS AVG Elagabalus, in priestly robes, standing left, holding patera in his right hand and club in his left; above left, star; below left, altar and sacrificial bull. BMC 210. Cohen 58. RIC 87. Toned and perfectly struck. Virtually as struck.

From the Stoecklin Collection, from the collection of Dr. Lesic in Belgrad, and from the Niš Hoard of the early 1930s ("Niška Kamenc").
