Description

Hadrian, 117-138. Alexandria. Drachm (Bronze, 35mm, 23.77 g 12), year 13 = 128/129. ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙC ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑ CΕΒ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian to right. Rev. L ΤΡΙCΚΑΙ Nilus reclining left on a crocodile, holding cornucopiae and reed; above ΙH. RPC III 5730. Bold, and with a dark brown patina. Areas of flat strike, otherwise, about extremely fine.

The Greek letters above Nilus on the reverse form the numeral 16 - the ideal height of the Nile in cubits.
