Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT, Ptolemy IV Philopator, 225-205 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26mm, 14.28 g 12), Alexandria. Jugate busts to right of Serapis, laureate, bearded and draped, and Isis, crowned, diademed and draped. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ Eagle with closed wings standing on thunderbolt to left, his head turned back to right, with double cornucopiae at his shoulder; between eagle’s legs, ΔΙ. BMFA 2284. SNG Copenhagen 197. Svoronos 1124. A splendid, lightly toned example, very well-struck. Minor flan crack, otherwise, extremely fine.
