Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT, Ptolemy I Soter, as satrap, 323-305 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15mm, 3.73 g 11), Alexandria, 316-312/0. Head of the deified Alexander III to right, wearing diadem and an elephant skin headdress, with aegis around his neck, and with horn of Ammon on his forehead. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Athena Alkidemos advancing right, hurling spear with her right hand and with shield over her extended left arm; to left, monogram of ΑΠ; at the far right, eagle with closed wings standing on thunderbolt to right; to the lower right, ΕΥ. SNG Copenhagen 16. Svoronos 45. Nicely toned. Good very fine.
